With optimized and world leading Synchrotron experimental capabilities we address phase transitions and dynamics in solids, magnetic systems on elemental time and length scales, molecular systems and their dynamics as well as how to exercise atomic control of function. The application of synchrotron radiation in medical research has become a mature field of research at synchrotron facilities worldwide. In the relatively short time that synchrotrons have been available to the scientific community, their characteristic beams of UV and X-ray radiation have been applied to virtually all areas of medical science which use ionizing radiation. Synchrotron Radiation Research Synchrotron radiation is highly directional light made from electrons and positrons which have been accelerated by an accelerator nearly to the speed of light.

Synchrotron Radiation Research CSRRI promotes, coordinates, and fosters research and educational activities in synchrotron radiation science and related fields at IIT. CSRRI works not only among the core faculty, but also among faculty in other areas and at other institutions across the nation and around the world. Today synchrotron radiation is one of the primary tools for studying surfaces, and synchrotron radiation has affected many other areas of condensed-matter physics--even superconductivity.
