The present study investigates the relationship between psychosocial work environment, namely, job demands, job control and social support and job satisfaction involving 1125 manufacturing workers in Malaysia. Specifically, the study aims at testing the hypotheses of the Job Demand-Control (JDC) model (Karasek, 1979) and Job Demand-Control-Support (JDCS) model (Johnson & Hall, 1988; Karasek ERI models, the JD-R model assumes that employee health and well-being result from a balance between positive (resources) and negative (demands) job character istics. As these two earlier models had already sensitized the hearts and minds of research ers and practitioners to the notion of balance, the JD-R model fell on fertile ground. Yet, Karasek's (1979) job demands-control model is one of the most widely studied models of occupational stress (de Lange, Taris, Kompier, Houtman, & Bongers, 2003).
